You Are Beautiful

I noticed "You Are Beautiful" when I was riding my bike on 2nd St. It turned out that this is an installation by You Are Beautiful collective, a group of activists who create amazing street art in Philadelphia. With this simple, positive message they try to oppose consumerism and mass media culture. For more info visit www.you-are-beautiful.com.

Pole Dancing 101

Temple News
writer Holly Otterbein is doing a story on a Pole Dancing Studio "A Sensual You" in North Philadelphia. She went there last week to take a class for beginners.

An interior of "A Sensual You," a pole dancing studio at 8th Street and Girard Ave.

Beginners are encouraged to wear high-heals, but the writer Holly decided to be barefoot. "I can't even walk in such shoes, to say nothing of dancing," she says laughing.

Holly' s first pole dancing experience!

The owner and instructor Barbara shows the beginners some simple moves.

Beginners are watching Barbara. "Damn, it looks so easy when she does it," one of the girls says.

"And now bend your left knee and grab the pole tight. You got it!"

By the end of the class Holly is having a lot of fun spinning around the pole!

Almost a professional pole dancer! "It was an interesting experience," Holly says after an hour- long class. "And quite a workout!"

The Fight of the Century

The Fight of the Century. On March 24, I witnessed an amateur boxing match between my classmate Cody Glenn (140 pounds) and his roommate Andrew Franklin aka Frank (240 pounds). The Fight happened in the living-room of their apartment on Girard Street. Around 30 friends attended. It was the first time I saw a live boxing match, and I must admit I got scared because it was "bloody and violent!"

Getting ready.

Round 1.

"Go, Cody!"

Round 2.

Round 3.

"You OK, Cody?"

The End.

Cody was knocked down in Round 4. Fellow-photographer Max Levine is taking pictures of Cody lying on the floor.
